USGBC Announces Extension of LEED 2009

We would like to thank everybody who joined us at the Greenbuild Conference in New Orleans this year. It was fun meeting all you at the conference and/or Bourbon Street. As always Centek wants to keep you informed with as much information as we can. Here are some of the most recent updates that we have learned:

I had a meeting with one of the Group Lead Energy Members and found that they are very aware of the problems they are having with the IAQ V4 test. The following issues may be resolved very soon:

  • Doing the VOC head-space chamber method for a select list of analytes, several compounds such as glycols and pesticides may be removed
  • The compounds that are in that select list – are they suppose to be subtracted out of the TVOC’s has now been brought to their attention
  • Maximum allowable concentrations limits on the VOC compound list may change
  • The Ozone testing method that is quoted had no collection media method

USGBC Announces Extension of LEED 2009

WASHINGTON, DC (Oct. 29, 2014) – The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) announced today that it will allow LEED users to register projects under the LEED 2009 rating system until Oct. 31, 2016. The original date for LEED 2009 registration to close was June 15, 2015. Extending to October 2016 gives LEED users and members of the green building industry additional time to prepare for LEED v4, the latest version of LEED, which features increased rigor and multiple updates. While the registration date has been extended, the last day projects can submit for certification, also called the sunset date, remains the same: June 30, 2021.

“When USGBC launched LEED v4 last year, we set out with one goal in mind – to raise the bar in a way that challenges the building industry to reach higher than ever before. This is our nature and USGBC and its members’ collective mission,” said Rick Fedrizzi, CEO & founding chair, USGBC. “However, the market has requested additional time to prepare for LEED v4, so we are responding.”

He holds a degree in Chemistry and has been working with many government officials such as the EPA, DOH and DOD just to name a few. He started Centek Laboratories back in 2003 with 1 GC/MS system and a hand full of canisters to test for volatile organic compounds (VOC's) utilizing EPA Method TO-15. Over the years he applied this type of chemistry to other industries. Centek Laboratories is not only doing IAQ for LEED certification but also in the vapor intrusion, industrial hygiene, BioGas and product testing fields. Russ has also been published and presented with engineering firms for vapor intrusion for the UMAS conference in Amherst, MA. He has also helped countless LEED consultants with testing and problem solving with specific IAQ issues to run a successful LEED eq. 3.2 programs. Russ has also promoted the laboratory to be everything green with the use of reusable media and minimal paperless programs. Centek Labs Air Quality Testing in Syracuse, New York
